Rawson masterclass against Irregulars
Highgate Irregulars 170-6 (Mohammed 3-11)
Jesters CC 171-4 (Sachin Rawson 69*, Mohammed 39)
Jesters won by 6 wickets
The final result makes this victory look easier than it was as we chased down 170 to win in 31 overs of a 35 over contest. This is thanks largely to an innings of composure and then ferocity by Sachin Rawson, who blunted an accurate, probing bowling attack with exceptional maturity before unleashing a series of eye-catching strokes round the wicket, including three big sixes as victory approached. The opposition skipper's dog Baxter, a working cocker, was working overtime retrieving balls from the undergrowth, including off his owner's bowling!
Sachin was brilliantly supported by James Richards, whose 26* was vital after a mid-innings wobble. Adnan Mohammed had battled stomach cramps all day but raised himself from the porcelain to score a fluent 39 and earlier in the day throttled the Irregulars' middle order, taking 3-11 off 7 overs after their top three had got them off to a flier against the unlikely opening partnership of Rawson Senior and Junior. Debutant Harsha Kagitala bowled well, making the initial breakthrough at the start of the day, as well as taking a sharp catch.
The Old Cholmeleian Sports Club was a lovely throwback to Sunday games of yore. Thanks very much to the Irregulars for having us, hopefully this new fixture is the first of many.
Jesters XI: Doward (c), Hudson, Harsha Kagitala, Mohammed, Nag, Sachin Rawson, Richards (wk), Harrison, Simon Rawson, Hayes, Kyriakides
