Depleted Jesters succumb to Maidenhead & Bray loss
Jesters CC 163-7 (Legg 70)
Maidenhead & Bray 164-5
Lost by 5 wickets
Agreeing to a 35 over a side game to combat the showers that were due, Jesters won the toss and batted first. M&B bowled well early doors on a tricky surface, which was brilliantly navigated by openers Rob Harrison (29 from 48 balls) and Ross Legg.
Legg carried on to an excellent 70 from 86 balls, supported by cameos from Alex Smith (17) and James Whittock (24 not out) to get to 163 from 35 overs.
Content with what felt like a competitive score, Jesters fielded valiantly with 10 men (9.5 after the General succumbed to a bad back) and after a fast start, the rate was slowed right down thanks to a good opening spell from the evergreen duo Phil Berman (2-25 including a plumb LBW) and Dan Hayes (1-40). Special mention to Tom Hayes, a top spell of leg spin without reward after 18 months of not bowling.
Unfortunately it proved too much in the end as M&B eased their way to a 5 wicket win with 2 overs to spare.
Top effort from the Jesters on the day, alas it was not to be.
Thanks to Maidenhead & Bray for hosting.
Jesters X: J Whittock (c), Legg, A Smith, Harrison, Dancey, T Hayes, Richards (wk), Butler, D Hayes, Berman
